In Max’s work as a CPA and as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of two large construction contractors, he saw more than enough businesses and construction companies wasting a lot of money because they didn’t have their books in order. Even more concerning was the waste of time worrying about money and finances, and time is one thing we will never get more of!

Meet Our Team.
Max Wilen
Max has been married to Karla since 2001, and together they have 6 children. He feels blessed to be a part of their lives. He enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors with them while hunting, fishing, and camping. Max is a graduate of Black Hills State University with a bachelor degree in accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) as well as a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
Max has worked in service to small businesses just like yours for decades. He started his career working in small tax and CPA firms for 7 years. He was then the Controller and Chief Financial Officer of a multi-million dollar contractor for over 9 years, watching it grow from just a few million in revenue to $25 million. This experience provided an avenue to learn from several of America’s most profound thought leaders such as Jim Collins, Dave Ramsey, Patrick Lencioni, Zig Ziglar, and Scott Adams. The failures and the wins provided a deep understanding how finance supports the business operations, and led him to develop many of the tools he uses yet today. Over the years, Max came to discover his passion to unlock potential in the individual. To fulfill this passion, Max started iCFO LLC in 2011.

Sommerlyn Mortensen
Sommerlyn Mortensen graduated from Black Hills State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She has over two decades of experience in public and private accounting and joined iCFO in January 2019. She received her Enrolled Agent Certificate in November 2019. Sommerlyn has 2 daughters and enjoys quilting, crocheting, reading, volunteering at her church and of course being with her girls. Sommerlyn has the heart of a teacher, loves her work, and loves watching her clients be successful.
Amber Lawler
Amber Lawlar has over two decades of experience in public and private accounting. She enjoys bookkeeping and the diversity of working with different businesses and industries. Amber has been married to her husband, Mark, since 2000 and they have 2 daughters. Spending time with her family and vacationing in Mexico are her two favorite things. Amber loves people and enjoys serving her clients in all their bookkeeping needs.
Cassandra Stevens
Cassandra Stevens graduated from Black Hills State University with a bachelors of science in Professional Accountancy and Business Management. She has over a decade of experience in public and private accounting. She is working on reinstating her Enrolled Agent Designation. Cassandra has two children and enjoys time touring her new home town with her kids and pets. Cassandra loves what she is doing and never stops learning the business. She is always looking out for clients and enjoys getting to know them on a personal level.
